The key to pedestrian safety is to be aware of what is going on around you and to obey traffic laws. Walking is a great alternate mode of transportation that can make a big difference in your health and well being. However, it is important to take some precautions.

  • Avoid dark clothing even in the daylight
  • Do not walk in the roadway
  • Always walk facing the traffic
  • If you wear earphones, make sure the volume is low enough to hear oncoming traffic
  • Always stop and look both ways before crossing any street
  • Make sure you are not obstructed from view by a parked car or any other object

Make sure that if your children are walking to or from school without an adult that they understand all of these safety tips.
