Law Enforcement

Several local law enforcement agencies participate in the Whatcom County Traffic Safety Task Force under a voluntary mutual aid agreement. This agreement provides full law enforcement authority to most officers anywhere in Whatcom County. Through this agreement local agencies pool there resources to address local concerns. Participating agencies include:

• Bellingham Police Department
• Blaine Police Department
• Everson Police Department
• Ferndale Police Department
• Lummi Tribal Police Department
• Lynden Police Department
• Nooksack Tribal Police Department
• Sumas Police Department
• Washington State Patrol
• WWU Police Department
• Whatcom County Sheriff's Office

In addition the Washington State Liquor Control Board also participates in emphasis patrols coordinated by the Task Force.

The members of the Whatcom County Traffic Safety Task Force have worked hard to establish a successful program that is making a difference in our community. This success has been recognized by leaders at the local, state, and federal level. As a result, local agencies have enjoyed tremendous success in obtaining grant money for special patrols, equipment, and supplies. Without grant funding most agencies simply would not have the resources to support such a comprehensive enforcement effort.
